the quietest christmas

merry christmas!

in chicago, it's gray and rainy and right now, i'm eating cake while watching a movie on cable.
perfect. the streets are so empty, i'd like to think of everyone in their robes and jammies, cooking christmas brunch, sprawled across sofas, yawning while wrapping paper flies across the living room. and englebert humperdink is on the radio.

i just wish the cafe across the street was open. i need coffee...

I can't speak for everyone else, but I didn't come out of my jammies all day. I could get used to that.

I do hope you found something festive to watch on in Cable land. Since I don't have a TV of my own I catch up when I am at my folks. Flipping through the stations I encountered scores of dysfunctional families (artistically portrayed of course) and gay men artfully dying of AIDS.

Showtime Family station ran "The Glass Managerie" and LOGO gave us "Angels in America". Thank God for South Park!

let's see... to date i've watched half a season of '24' (addictive, though a bit overwrought), the Nutcracker, Earth Wind and Fire Tribute on Ice with Brian Boitano, a couple MGM musicals and scads of old Poirot episodes.

clearly, i'm turning into an old lady.

Ooooh, fun. I'm a 24 addict also.

and, yesterday, i bought a stack of comic books and now i'm going across the street to the cafe to read them while ostensibly working on my next magazine article pitch.

ostensibly. heh.

Oh, hey, I've always meant to ask you: where do you buy comics downtown? And do they carry indie books or just superhero stuff?

i go to two places: graham crackers on clark (they also have a new store on 77 e. madison). they carry indies and have a huuuge selection.

up in evanston, i go to...crap, i forgot the name. they're the only comic book store in downtown evanston. they carry a lot of the indies and have a good selection of back issues. graham cracker is great, though.

Thanks for the tip. I've passed by Graham Crackers a zillion times but I've never been inside for some reason. I'll have to go next time I'm in the city. Never been to Evanston but I'll look into it.
