Jerry Falwell, Leading Religious Conservative, Dies at 73 - New York Times.
"I do not believe the homosexual community deserves minority status. One's misbehavior does not qualify him or her for minority status. Blacks, Hispanics, women, etc., are God-ordained minorities who do indeed deserve minority status."
-- Rev Jerry Falwell, USA Today Chat, quoted from The Religious Freedom Coalition, "The Two faces of Jerry Falwell"

remember when he outed tinky winky?
i am never been happy that someone has died (well, someone who wasn't terribly or terminally ill). when a public figure who i find distasteful or ideologically wrong dies, i sometimes feel relief and then later guilt at the relief.
this is the first time i have felt happy that someone is gone and not felt guilty at the relief. with his hatred and bigotry, he re-slayed the very Lord whose grace he was supposed to spread. historical Christianity, Christ's teachings and Christ himself suffered greatly because of this man.
Good Riddance. May God have the mercy on his soul that Falwell claimed God would deny his perceived adversaries.
'he re-slayed the Lord.'
that made me laugh. loudly.
i'm not going to gloat at this man's death, but i will confess to a relief that we won't have to listen to his crazy pronouncements on high anymore. his smug, overfed pink face won't be beaming from Meet the Press anytime soon while he says that feminists are satanists and gay people need to stop misbehaving while God-ordained minorities sight god's will to be discriminated against.
asshat!
Yeah, I'm going to wait a few days before pissing on his grave. But this does sort of beg the question: was his death God punishing him for being gay?
snort.
(sometimes i think us church folk should be less snarky. but that was funny.)
Mostly I'm shocked at his poor grasp of mathematics. Women a minority? I don't think so....
but, greg - we're 'god-ordained' minorities! that goes way beyond math! god is beyond math!
