if i hadn't read the scarlet letter when i was a kid, i'd think this story was sad. instead it's just so...predictable.

if this guy never mentioned the name of christ but still held the same moral positions do you think we'd be hearing about this?
just trying to get to the root of the gripe. is it his religious beliefs, the fact that his religious beliefs influence his work, his influence on policy, his treatment of his wife (heinous), or all of it?
it's hard to muddle through these articles you find - must be because i'm one of those right wing religious zealot neo conservative christian freaks. can't you just see me here - religious hymns playing in the background which can barely be heard over the evangelistic healer on the tv asking for money; all the time i'm shuttling between churchgal and dr dobson's website and sending hate email to my senator and congressman re gay marriage and urging my neighbors to do likewise.
nah. it's none of those things. it's the hypocrisy. plain and simple. the self-righteous hypocrisy.
and, for the record, i don't think of you that way at all.
if hager wants to be papa jesus to every women who comes to his private practice, so be it.
if hager wants to be papa jesus to *me* (and other women, a significant portion of which couldn't give a crap about his religious belief) while fulfilling a public office, then yeah, i have a gripe. we protestants have a real problem with guys like the pope giving out messages to his flock telling them how to act and be and vote and stuff, but we have no problem with some christian guy doing the same thing.
if this is really what we really want then why not be honest and say i want church and state to be joined so that one is indistinguishable from the other.
it's creepy and wrong.
